The Supa Funk: Envelope Filter with Filthy Intentions

Guest post by Steve Baric

We love boutique gear with brains and bad attitude, and the SolidGold FX Supa Funk delivers both in spades. This Canadian-built analog envelope filter is no throwback. It’s a next-gen funk box designed for players who want precision tone sculpting, real analog feel, and maximum stank in their signal path.

Whether you're building your perfect funk rig or looking to inject some expressive texture into your lead tones, the Supa Funk earns its place. It’s one of our feature pedals in the Great Canadian Pedalboard 2025 contest for good reason.

What It Is:

The Supa Funk is a dual low-pass envelope filter with a blendable Color control…basically a second filter running in parallel to add depth, girth, and growl. The result is a filter sound that can go from subtle vintage auto-wah all the way to vocal, synth-like modulation.

The analog envelope generator is highly responsive and tunable, so it tracks accurately across pick dynamics, instrument input, and playing styles. It even plays nice with synths and drum machines.

Control Layout:

  • Depth, Sensitivity, and Frequency for envelope response

  • Color for blending a secondary low-pass filter

  • Direction toggle (up or down sweep)

  • Volume knob

  • Top-mounted jacks

  • Soft-touch true bypass

That last one matters. Silent switching and clean signal paths make this pedal friendly to pro pedalboards and live rigs.

In The Loop, Or Up Front?

Up front with guitar or bass, the Supa Funk adds that booty-shaking pulse that makes players grin. But try it in your loop with synths or modulated fuzz, and it becomes a different animal altogether: vocal, rubbery, and borderline cybernetic.

We dropped it in after a gated fuzz and before a phaser and were rewarded with laser beams, wah sweeps, and electro-boogie joy. Stack it with an octave pedal and a subtle delay for some serious George Clinton-style space funk.

Specs Recap:

  • All-analog signal path

  • Dual blendable filters

  • Tunable envelope response

  • Forward/reverse sweep toggle

  • True bypass with soft-touch switching

  • Top jacks for clean pedalboard setup

  • Built in Montreal, Canada

  • Runs on standard 9V power (20 mA draw)

Final Verdict:

The Supa Funk is the best kind of tone tool: one that inspires you to play differently. From subtle rhythmic accents to absolute filter chaos, it adds musicality and motion in ways no static effect can.

And it's #madeincanada, so it’s built with care, smarts, and a love of groove.
